I went to the opening ceremony dress rehearsal yesterday, and it was really awesome. It will look amazing on an HDTV. They are keeping the flame lighting a secret though..

I heard they're having airport type security at all olympic events, so be prepared to have your bags checked, and get frisked by a stranger;)

I heard you have to get there 4 hrs before the start! that is ridiculous.
That is indeed tough. A lot of folks that have kids won't be able to go since 4 hours + the length of event is outside of scope for any babysitter!

Hm, here's a thought: If I get few people to go, I'm going to hike one of the close by mountains that won't be overcrowded or have security (best candidate would be the mountains on Indian Arm (Seymore, Belcara around Bunzten lake) on Friday, and sleep overnight. On the evening of Feb 12th I'll have nice view of the events and with an iphone I can tune in to the local station broadcasting the music, etc. No security, no frisking, no hassle! ;)

i see a numbe of draw backs to this approach...not least the sleeping overnight i the mountains in Febuary!!!
